Summer Reading Recommendations for Turkish Language B Learners

Grade 2 Marmara explain their pizza toppings in Turkish

Grade 2 Marmara Turkish language A and B students name their pizza toppings. They learned the term “koyuyorum” – I put tomatoes, olives on the pizza. The next step for them will be to place a pizza order for delivery.

Grade 2 Turkish students were making a healthy pizza.

Grade 2 Turkish students came together once again to create a healthy pizza. They rolled the dough, put the toppings and ate the pizza. Is it healthy or not ?

Grade 2 Marmara sorting healthy foods into groups

This week, both Turkish classes worked together to demonstrate their understanding of the five food groups. First, they drew and wrote the names of at least one food item belonging to one of these groups on a small card. They then strung them through a piece of ribbon to make a “food necklace”. Next, the language A students called out a food group, such as “tahillar”. The same student then questioned their peers about what the food item was called, such as “simit” (the most popular item among students). We continued the activity for other food groups, such as “meyveler”, “sebzeler”, “süt ürünleri”.

Grade 2 Marmara learning and “making” new vocabulary words

Grade 2 at Marmara read the book “Çilli” about a young chick who did not keep his promise to the Scruffy Black Cat. They learnt new vocabulary words such as “endişe”, “nefis”, “yoluk”, “kiler”, “kil” which they then “rewrite” with letter tiles. They were split into teams and were very eager to be the ones to get the spelling correct, as you can see from the video. They also made sentences with these new words.
