Grade 2 Marmara explain their pizza toppings in Turkish

Grade 2 Marmara Turkish language A and B students name their pizza toppings. They learned the term “koyuyorum” – I put tomatoes, olives on the pizza. The next step for them will be to place a pizza order for delivery.


Grade 2 Marmara sorting healthy foods into groups

This week, both Turkish classes worked together to demonstrate their understanding of the five food groups. First, they drew and wrote the names of at least one food item belonging to one of these groups on a small card. They then strung them through a piece of ribbon to make a “food necklace”. Next, the language A students called out a food group, such as “tahillar”. The same student then questioned their peers about what the food item was called, such as “simit” (the most popular item among students). We continued the activity for other food groups, such as “meyveler”, “sebzeler”, “süt ürünleri”.

This week, Grade 2 looked into different food items in Turkish and wrote the ones they liked the most on post-its. We then collected all this data on a poster, where we tried to figure out how we could put all these foods into different categories in Turkish. We looked at how these foods were different – “faklı” or the same “aynı” or “benzer” similar.
